THE AUGUSTINE

The Augustine Letenska 12/33 Prague 118 00

Distance from Hotel to Airport, 12 kms (7 miles).
The Augustine reflects Prague's history, character and beauty. The hotel has been created from a set of seven buildings, many of which have historical significance, the largest and most important of which is the thirteenth century Augustinian St. Thomas Monastery, after which the hotel is named. Other buildings include the Monastery's former brewery, a building of the Ministry of the Interior and a hotel. The monastery buildings were confiscated from the Augustinian Oder during Czechoslovakia's communist era, and were returned following the Velvet Revolution in 1989. Several Augustinian friars live in separate quarters of St. Thomas Monastery adjacent to the hotel grounds. The construction of the hotel commenced in August 2006 and has involved the painstaking restoration and repair of the buildings' characteristic architectural features. With over 4,000 cubic meters of archaeological excavation, the design of the hotel has been influenced by the layout of the historical buildings, cloisters and courtyards, resulting in many remarkable features and spaces.
